Zum zweiten Mal in Folge hat sich das erfahrenste Teams der VLN Langstreckenmeisterschaft Nürburgring in diesem Jahr durchgesetzt: Marcel Tiemann (Monaco), Timo Bernhard (Dittweiler) und Romain Dumas (Frankreich) überquerten im Porsche 911 GT3 R von Manthey-Racing nach 28 Runden (4:04:57995 Stunden) als Sieger die Ziellinie. Der Vorsprung auf den zweitplatzierten Audi R8 LMS von Phoenix-Racing, mit den Fahrern Frank Stippler (Bad Münstereifel), Marcel Fässler (Schweiz) und Mike Rockenfeller (Österreich), betrug 1:07364 Minuten. Nur 1758 Sekunden später wurde Jörg Bergmeister (Langenfeld) abgewinkt. Zusammen mit Wolf Henzler (Nürtingen) feierte er so einen historischen Erfolg, die erste Podiumsplatzierung des Hybrid-betriebenen Porsche 911 GT3 R. Bei frühlingshaften Witterungsbedingungen rund um die 24369 Kilometer lange Kombination aus Nürburgring Kurzanbindung und Nordschleife sahen 142 der 200 gestarteten Teams die Zielflagge.
Der mit Spannung erwartete Saisonauftakt der VLN Langstreckenmeisterschaft Nürburgring war für die zahlreichen Fans der populärsten Breitensportserie Europas keine Enttäuschung. Nach einem packenden Rennen feierte das Team Manthey-Racing bei der 57. ADAC Westfalenfahrt den ersten Sieg mit dem neuen Porsche 911 GT3 R. Marcel Tiemann (Monaco), Marc Lieb (Ludwigsburg) und Timo Bernhard (Dittweiler) wurden nach Ablauf der Distanz über vier Stunden mit einem Vorsprung von 14535 Sekunden auf die zweitplatzierten Mattias Ekström (Schweden) und Emmanuel Collard (Schweiz) im Audi R8 LMS von Abt Sportsline abgewinkt. Das Podium komplettierten Augusto Farfus (Brasilien), Pedro Lamy (Portugal) und Uwe Alzen (Betzdorf) im von BMW Motorsport eingesetzten M3. Ein großer Erfolg war die Rennpremiere des Porsche 911 GT3 R mit Hybrid-Antrieb. Richard Lietz, Martin Ragginger (beide Österreich) und Jörg Bergmeister (Langenfeld) beendeten das Rennen auf Platz sechs.

The 2011 Team Flying Lizard Racing number 80 Porsche GT3 RSR on display at Winner Porsche of Delaware. Winner Porsche hosted a generous event where drinks and appetizers were served on the house, and guests were able to meet and converse with the Team Flying Lizard Racing drivers, Patrick Long and Jörg Bergmeister. Also in the video are several of the classic vintage Porsche racing cars.
