R6 Chasing R1. Track Day at Arizona Motorsports Park.
Driving my car around the track at Arizona Motorsports Park. Course length: 2.25 miles Best lap time: 2:02.7 Average speed: 66.01 mph Top speed: 105 mph This is my first racing footage taken using a GoPro camera. Sorry for only being able to hear wind noise, but I never got a chance to take an in car video as well due to my rear axle seals failing during the last lap of this session (hence the starter giving me the "you're car is smoking" signal when receiving the checker.)
An eventful second session during my first ever run at this great 2.6-mi 18-turn track in the Phoenix metro area. It's a good thing that this track has a lot of run-off room because I found I was not as good as I thought at dealing with a loose handling Miata.
This was my first track day at this great and very safe track in the Phoenix metro area. This video features the fourth and last session of the day for my run group. This track is smooth, wide, technically challenging and fun, and very safe due to all the run-off room at all of the 18 corners that make up this fine road racing circuit.
A track buddy of mine who is a new Porsche Boxter owner tries out his fantastic car on the wonderful 2.3-mi 16-turn Arizona MotorSports Park road racing track for the first time. This is one of five road racing tracks within the Phoenix, AZ metro area -- few if any major cities can make such a claim.
PCA DE event at Arizona Motorsports Park, March 10, 2012. Recently purchased 1984 911 Targa. First time at this track, had not driven a torsion bar era 911 on track in almost 15 years. Was very helpful following this Mustang, but could not duplicate some of his wide swinging, side-to-side movement on the tight sections. Line is still pretty ragged. Note Rumblestrip Racing GPS predictive lap timer in lower right. Best lap time of 1:56.35, and you can see how much time gained on the latter part of that lap by watching the display go negative. (Other indicator is speed, until you cross the line to get your lap time.)
NASA DE4 Group. My first event at Arizona Motorsports Park. Nice Track, can't wait to go back. These were the smallest run groups I have ever been with NASA due to some of the restrictions at the track. Would be awesome to run with a full grid here. Lot's of places to pass and wide enough to be 3 wide in some corners, could be fun!!! Spent most of Saturday trying to translate some videos I watched before going out but found a rythem on Sunday. I know I left alot out there so look forward to the next event here.
With round one at Daytona quickly approaching, teams and riders are busy gearing up for the 2012 AMA Pro Racing season. Rider Jake Holden and the team at Evan Steel Performance (ESP) are no exception, working hard in their backyard "fun factory" during the offseason. At the end of a dirt road in Tucson, Arizona, sits Evan Steel Performance, a small motorcycle service and repair shop owned by Evan Steel and Phil Allison. The shop, which began with a dyno and a trailer in 2005, now doubles as headquarters for building Jake Holden's BMW S1000RR, which the team will race this season in the AMA Pro National Guard Superbike class. Holden moved to Arizona four months ago to join the ESP team. Since the move, he's been spending nearly every weekend enjoying what he calls the "fun factory" of local tracks—the Mussleman Honda Circuit, MC Motorsports Park, and Arizona Motorsports Park. "I couldn't ask for more," he says. Holden is no stranger to the AMA paddock. He turned pro in 1999 and has regularly competed in the AMA series, finishing third overall in two AMA Pro national championships, achieving 14 AMA Pro national podiums, three pole positions, four track records, and several top-five finishes. Allison, who first met Holden in 2004, describes him as "one of the best talents in the paddock." The ESP team has been competing in the AMA Pro series for the last 7 years, earning kudos with some of the fastest trap speeds, several front row starts, and numerous podiums. And, they've <b>...</b>
