Rehagen Racing and Georgian Bay Motorsports Win at VIR

The Grand-Am KONI Challenge Series spent the weekend at VIRginia International Raceway, which wrapped up with two split class races.

Saturday’s race saw the ST class take to the track for their final race of the season. Lawson Aschenbach, Ken Dobson, and Jamie Holtom of Georgian Bay Motorsports took the win in their Chevrolet Cobalt SS. Close behind was the Compass360 Racing entry driven by Adam Burrows and Trevor Hopwood. Finishing in third place was the sister car to the winning entry – the Georgian Bay Motorsports machine driven by Lawson Aschenbach, Eric Curran, and Jamie Holtom.

On Sunday it was time for the GS class to hit the track for their final race of 2008. Finishing in the top two positions were the Ford Mustangs of Rehagen Racing. The first one driven by Mike Canney, Hugh Plumb, and Matt Plumb, and the second one piloted by Dean Martin, Ryan Phinny, and Jack Roush Jr.

Auberlen and Alhadeff Score the Win in Utah

The overall winners of this week’s KONI Challenge Series race at Miller Motorsports Park in Utah were Matt Alhadeff and Bill Auberlen of Turner Motorsport. Just behind them in second was the TRG Porsche driven by Duncan Ende and Spencer Pumpelly.

Eric Curran and Jamie Holtom, the leaders in the Street Tuner (ST) class, finished 17th overall in the final results.

The Top-5 Finishers Included:

1. Turner Motorsport – BMW M3 Coupe – Matt Alhadeff, Bill Auberlen
2. TRG – Porsche 997 – Duncan Ende, Spencer Pumpelly
3. Rehagen Racing – Ford Mustang GT – Billy Johnson, Ray Mason
4. Hyper Sport – Ford Mustang GT – Joe Foster, Scott Maxwell

Michael Shank Racing Wins at Miller Motorsports Park

The Daytona Prototype of Michael Shank Racing that was driven by Ian James, Raphael Matos and John Pew won the race at Miller Motorsports Park earlier today. This race marked the end of the 2008 Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series season.

Memo Rojas and Scott Pruett went away with a championship, despite their second 9th place finish in row.

The Leading Prototype Teams Were:

1. Michael Shank Racing – Ford Riley – Ian James, Raphael Matos, John Pew
2. SunTrust Racing – Pontiac Dallara – Max Angelelli, Michael Valiante
3. GAINSCO/ Bob Stallings Racing – Pontiac Riley – Jon Fogarty, Alex Gurney, Jimmy Vasser

Oswaldo Negri Jr. and Mark Patterson Win In New Jersey

Oswaldo Negri Jr. and Mark Patterson of Michael Shank Racing grabbed the Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series win at New Jersey Motorsports Park. It was the pair’s first win of the season.

Leading the pack in GT was the TRG Porsche driven by Tim George Jr. and Andy Lally. They came in 14th position overall.

The top teams ranked by class included:

BGB Motorsports Takes Overall Win in New Jersey

The BGB Motorsports Porsche 997 driven by Jon Miller and Craig Stanton won the Grand-Am KONI Challenge Series race held on August 30, 2008 at New Jersey Motorsports Park.

The top ranking ST team was the Bill Fenton Motorsports Honda Civic driven by Bob Beede and Matt Plumb.

The class leaders were:

Max Angelelli and Michael Valiante Win at Infineon

SunTrust Racing’s Max Angelelli and Michael Valiante took their Pontiac Dallara to the front of the field Saturday and made it stick to win the 2008 Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series race at Infineon Raceway. Today’s race was a “DP Only” race.

The leading drivers to the checkered flag were:

1. Max Angelelli/ Michael Valiante – SunTrust Racing
2. Jon Fogarty/ Alex Gurney – GAINSCO/ Bob Stallings Racing
3. Brian Frisselle/ Mark Wilkins – AIM Autosport

Separate KONI Challenge Races at Trois-Rivieres

This weekend’s KONI Challenge races saw both classes run in separate events.

First up was the Street Tuner class race that saw Adam Burrows and Trevor Hopwood race to the win in their Acura TSX on Saturday, August 16. Behind them was the BMW Z4 of Toby Grahovec and Pierre Kleinubing in second, followed by the Chevrolet Cobalt SS co-piloted by Jamie Holtom and Andy Lally in third.

On Sunday, August 17th, the Grand Sport GT class drivers undertook their race at Trois-Rivieres where Marc-Antoine Camirand and Andy Lally scored the victory. Following the leading BMW M3 Coupe, were two Ford Mustang GTs finishing out the top three. The first driven by James Gue and Bret Seafuse, the latter driven by Billy Johnson and Ray Mason.

Lally, Schroeder Take the Iowa Speedway Win

Andy Lally and Scott Schroeder won this year’s Grand-Am KONI Challenge Series race at Iowa Speedway on Sunday. The pair racing in The Racer’s Group Porsche 997 beat out BGB Motorsports’ Jon Miller and Craig Stanton, also in a Porsche 997, who finished in second place.

The top scoring team in the Street Tuner class was Georgian Bay Motorsports with Lawson Aschenbach and Jamie Holtom sharing the driving duties of their Chevrolet Cobalt SS.

The top finishers of the race were:

1. TRG – Andy Lally, Scott Schroeder
2. BGB Motorsports – Jon Miller, Craig Stanton
3. Turner Motorsport – Matt Alhadeff, Bill Auberlen
4. JBS Motorsports – James Gue, Bret Seafuse

Brian Frisselle and Mark Wilkins Win Again

Brian Frisselle and Mark Wilkins celebrated their second win in as many weeks today, moving them up to 10th in the Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series championship standings. The pair was tied for 14th place leading up to the race at Watkins Glen. Just last week, Frisselle and Wilkins scored AIM Autosport’s first win in the series.

Wilkins, who was in the car for the final laps of the race, crossed the finish line just 1.986 seconds ahead of the second place finisher Alex Gurney, who co-piloted the vehicle with teammate Jon Fogarty. Though today’s race featured a close finish, last week’s race was even closer – the closest in Grand-Am history in fact. Wilkins snagged that win with a margin of victory timing merely .064 seconds.

The Top Finishers at Watkins Glen Included:

1. Brian Frisselle, Mark Wilkins – AIM Autosport
2. Jon Fogarty, Alex Gurne – GAINSCO/ Bob Stallings Racing
3. David Donohue, Darren Law – Brumos Racing

Grand-Am Rolex Hits the Track in Montreal

The Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series will head out shortly for their first of several practice sessions today at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal, Canada.

The Grand-Am portion of today’s schedule includes:

12:30 to 01:30 p.m. – Free Practice
02:00 to 03:00 p.m. – Free Practice
03:30 to 04:30 p.m. – Free Practice
05:00 to 05:30 p.m. – Final Practice
05:30 to 06:00 p.m. – Final Practice**

** (for Trueman/Akin Award Participants Only)

The series will hold its qualifying sessions starting tomorrow at 1:15 p.m. followed by their two hour race, which is scheduled to be the last action on the track tomorrow, beginning at 4:15 p.m.
