Fernando Alonso Gets First F1 Win of the Season

Fernando Alonso grabbed the first Formula 1 race win of the 2010 season for team Ferrari. He finished 16 seconds ahead of the second place finisher, Felipe Massa, and scored 25 championship points. Behind Massa was Lewis Hamilton in third, Sebastian Vettel in fourth, and Nico Rosberg in fifth.

Of the 24 cars that started the race, several were unable to complete the event, including Pedro de la Rosa, Kamui Kobayashi, and Lucas di Grassi, who all suffered from hydraulic troubles, Bruno Senna, who had a mechanical failure, Timo Glock, who had gear box issues, Vitaly Petrov, who had suspension troubles, and Karun Chandhok, who was involved in an accident at the start of the race.

Will Power Wins the Sao Paulo Indy 300

Team Penske driver Will Power came out victorious in today’s Sao Paulo Indy 300 in Brazil. He beat out Andretti Autosport’s Ryan Hunter-Reay by less than two seconds for top honors. Vitor Meira, Raphael Matos, and Dan Wheldon rounded out the top five.

The major leaders for the IZOD IndyCar race were Dario Franchitti, who led 29 laps and finished in 7th, and Ryan Hunter-Reay, who led 20 laps, and finished second. The leader, Will Power, led for only 4 laps, as did Ryan Briscoe, who finished 14th and Simona De Silvestro, who finished the race in 16th.

Scott Pruett and Memo Rojas Win the Grand Prix of Miami

Today’s Grand-Am ROLEX Sports Car Series race, the Grand Prix of Miami, that was held at Florida’s Homestead-Miami Speedway, saw the Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates teammates, Scott Pruett and Memo Rojas, take the overall win in their BMW Riley Daytona Prototype.

Coming in second was the Porsche Riley Brumos Racing entry of Darren Law and David Donohue, that lead the most laps in the race, having lead 71 of the total 129 laps in the race. Law lost the lead to Pruett on lap 80, and was never able recapture the top spot.

The top finishing GT Class car, was SpeedSource’s Mazda RX-8, driven by Emil Assentato and Jeff Segal.
